FIRST DAY IN BERLIN - Turistic Outfit

I had never been to Berlin before. I love it! It has a deliciously mellow vibe to it. Lots of cafes out in the end-of-summer sun, barely any music plays and people talk quietly, just relaxing and enjoying other´s company. Summer is just…easy in Berlin. My kinda place.

Tailored to Fit - Surgery of a skirt

We all tend to have forgotten things in our closets.

Halfway through my business trip in Mexico I decided to make a pause to pay the old closet a visit. I grew up here and still have a thing or two in my old room at my parent´s house and its always fun to rummage around to find forgotten treasures. This time I came across a very cool white and black two-piece skirt-suit I bought a few years ago – and realised I had never worn it (gasp).

After beating my self up over poor life-choices (like burying this suit at the back of my closet) I decided to mend fences with the forgotten item and give it a second chance. I tried it on.  I hated it.

I stood in front of the mirror pulling the skirt up, pinching the sides of the jacket to give it more waist, and wondering what the hell I was thinking when I bought it – It MUST already been ill-fitting when I bought it as I have been quite constant with sizes and weight the last few years. . . and then, I realised the true reason of the abandonment: It never made it to the tailor.

From a young age I was taught to tailor clothes when I buy them. From jeans and t-shirts to suits it all got taken in for a quick surgery (generally a little “tuck in” or “hem-up”)  but for some reason I stopped doing it. Yet another jaded life decision.  God, I really need to get back to that.

BLACK-AND-WHITE SUIT TAILORED

Have you seen men in perfectly tailored suits? (aka, my yummy husband). It makes a humongous difference! When things are tailored they just…FIT (surprisingly).  So why the hell should´t we tailor all the pieces we buy to make sure they are literally made for our bodies?!

Lately I´ve had my eye on a few skirts that have uneven edges (see links below). So, taking advantage of my stay in México I decided to take the now-found suit our trusty tailor (key word: trusty). I put my designer skills to good use, added a scrunch to the skirt and took it in at the sides. The jacket just needed some fitting.  A few days and about $20usd later, I have a new (more casual) suit. Yippy yeah yey. Wear them separately and voila! Helmut Land skirt-style revamped.

Lets all get the whole closet tailored and make sure our clothes fit from now on, shall we?

Add a little kick to that old closet, go to the tailor. It is the best way to achieve a polished look.

I will post a photo of the jacket later.

The last white lace summer dress

Although lace is a big trend for fall, this is probably the last white lace summer dress I will wear for a while.White is the quintessential summer colour, and its getting chilly outside. Personally, I prefer sweaters, coats and boots with the slightest hint of cold – besides, I have a crazy travel agenda lined up away from my sunny Costa Rica and neither México, Amsterdam or London will call for a dress like this.

So here it is while I can wear it, a gorgeous Adolfo Dominguez cotton-lace dress – I love how they have blended two very different fabrics to create this interesting pattern. Every detail, as it is custom of his dresses, fills expectations and quality.

And what I love about it is that it can be dressed down with sandals and edgy jewellery or  with vintage pearls and accent heels for a special occasion as worn here.

Make your Bathroom a Sanctuary

No matter what home you go to I can guarantee you that the most intimate place in the  house is the bathroom.  I am not talking about going-to-the-bathroom-to-pee sort of intimacy, I am taking about spending some serious quality time with yourself (or even your partner) in there.

Think about it: every morning you start your day there – NAKED – and you face yourself in the mirror. You think about your day, maybe worry about some things you have to do, fantasise about others and the internal dialogue begins to spin. Some of us will set goals, others may realise how time has passed, make “TO-DO” lists, or even have a chat with our partner while we get ready.  We spend a lot more time than we think in this little room.

We go out of the bathroom and the chaos and busyness of our days kicks in and some of us will not have any time alone again – not until that night when we  end up in the same place, getting ready for bed.

The point I am trying to make is that the bathroom is an important place in our homes and it is always surprising how many of us take it for granted and fail to make an effort to make it a pleasant place to be in.

The bathroom is a sanctuary, it is a place of rituals, beginnings and ends. So pimp up your bathrooms! Add fresh  flowers, scented candles and play music while you shower – for life is too short to get ready and prepare for bed everyday in a dull place.

YOU SHOULD HAVE ONE OF THESE SHOES IN YOUR CLOSET

THE COOL HUES-01

I am using this blog as an excuse to revamp my fashion style. I don´t live in NY, Mexico, Sao Paulo, Tokyo or Paris, where fashion is a real priority in life – so my sense of fashion has slowly adapted (ejem, decayed) over the past few years to a more practical lifestyle. Don´t get me wrong – i dress up – but my style is more classic than it used to be – more neutral and more lenient to my surroundings, which in this case is generally the beach, wood workshops and blacksmiths (due to my newfound calling as a product and furniture designer). And I MISS dressing up, like REALLY dressing up on a daily basis, like I used to when I had corporate jobs in big cities.  So enough is enough – with the help of an amazing stylist and a new-found sense of fashion I plan to incorporate my design creativity into my choice of clothes.

To achieve this, I am on the lookout of KEY pieces that with bring my closet up a notch. Obviously I have started with SHOES and I have decided I need statement shoes  in cool hues (big grin on my face). Here are 6 great shoes which I consider are amazing for this end-of-summer season. :

Qué Ponerse en Días de Ensueño

KIMONO- PINK DRESS OUTFIT
