Recently I had the opportunity to be backstage during the model fittings for the Line-Up-Trends fashion shows. Brands Like Max Mara (my favourite of the lot), Mango, Adolfo Dominguez and Corte Fiel were summed up to give Costa Rica the height of spring-summer fashion. I had the chance to talk to the stylist and the models. The excitement was palpable and the show was coldly calculated to the smallest detail. Outfits were arranged in order of appearance (weeks before the show). They were numbered, accessorised and assigned to certain models. The show instead of being divided by brands, as most runways usually are, were divided by trends. This in itself was refreshing and inspiring. The trends we will see during this catwalk are 4:
- Nautical
An array of soft, lightweight materials and stripped patterns compose these looks. A clean white and marine blue are the main colors. It is a fresh, simple and casual trend made for the carefree days of endless summer.
- Boat Cruise
This trend is the sophisticated version of the nautical experience. Monochromatic whites in more decadent materials and metallic accents compose these looks. An elegant air of movies like casablanca spring to mind. You will need a peppered gin and tonic in one hand to wear these looks.
- Urban Soft
The star color of this trend is ROSE QUARTZ, one of the pantone selections for 2016. In this trend we find geometric cuts and more minimalistic shapes. I also found a hint of the romantic trend imposed by brands like Chloé and Zimmerman in international catwalks. Contrasts between femenine and masculine details. Still fresh and with a more trendy edge, this is the summer look for the city.
- Chinese
FIESTA RED and patterns were the stars of this collection. Bright bold graphics. Linear cuts. Big accent pieces. Metallics and blacks. This trend is for the brave and daring and it is one to turn heads. It was great to see how brands like Max Mara and Adolfo Dominguez have incorporated vibrant patterns into their collection. Impecable cuts were present in every piece, and this is so important when it comes to prints. A bold print and a bad cut can make us look frumpy and fat. These brands pull it of seamlessly. So that is my little preview on the up and coming trends. Can´t wait to see the catwalk. The event will be one to remember.
